Our Journey

Since January 2023, we have been working hard to achieve our goals. Today we are proud to say we have nearly raised our fundraising goal, thanks to community support.

In early February we spoke at a conservation conference with the Saskatchewan Chapter of the Wildlife Society. As a group we discussed our goals and what we hope to see change in the conservation field in the coming years. We learned about new research occurring in biology and connected with some wonderful individuals.

In March we began presenting to high school students. During these talks, we discussed career opportunities in conservation and environmental science, schooling paths, and our own personal experiences. We shared our passion for this field, and had great discussions with the students. Our hope is that these presentations sparked interest in youth to pursue a career in these fields. Throughout this project, we have been fortunate to have strong female mentors, and by speaking with high school students, we hope to pass that on.

Over the summer of 2023, fundraising continued, and we booked our flights! We were fortunate to receive support from the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, and Courtney Devins asked us to kick off the conference with a presentation.

The trip out east was wonderful, we learned so much from the people at the conference. We were in awe of the inspiring stories and courage of other women in the room. Our group is already planning to attend the next Advancing Women in Conservation conference.
